This first of its kind event hosted more than 100 speakers from around the globe, and had live sessions in three regional time zones; North America (EST), Europe (GMT), and Asia-Pacific (Australian AEST)

Technologies for Editorial Offices: A Practical Look at What's New


ICYMI!  New technologies are always being developed and implemented to make our lives easier. The publishing world is no different. In this session from the ISMTE 2021 Global Meeting representatives from ScholarOne and Aries Systems to talk about some of the latest technologies they are implementing into the software programs editors, authors, reviewers and editorial staff use every day.  We also hear from some other industry technology leaders about what the latest trends are and what we can expect to see develop in the coming years.


Diversity in the peer review and editorial processes - 1

The world changed forever when the COVID pandemic forced businesses to close physical offices and send their employees to work from home. Despite the virus, and reimagining workflows and procedures in this new environment, editorial offices continued to evolve and thrive. Meet three professionals who started their new editorial roles in 2020, what they learned in the first year of the job, tips and tricks for success, and thoughts on what worked and what didn’t in virtual training environments.



Case Studies in DEI: What has worked in Editorial Office

 

Many journal offices, editors and publishers are implementing new policies, practices and initiatives to improve the diversity within editorial operations. In this session, Diana Jones, Executive Publisher, Elsevier, discusses new programs aimed at improving diversity in peer review, on editorial boards as well as new mentorship programs aimed at early career development. J&J Editorial's Brit Stamey discusses creating and implementing a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council in the workplace.



DEI at the workplace

 

This session looks at DEI and wellness within the workplace. In it we will be setting out why it is important for companies to implement diversity, inclusion and wellness strategies, providing practical tips on policies that could be adopted and considering in more detail the issue of menopause in the workplace.

Diversity in Peer Review

 

This session will explore perspectives and experiences on inclusion and diversity in peer review. After first focusing on the need and benefits, our speakers will discuss what a diverse reviewer pool looks like and how to get initiatives off the ground.
