Julie Nash

Julie Nash has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies degree from Duke University. Julie started working in Scientific, Technical and Medical (STM) publishing as an assistant editor with Arthritis & Rheumatism (A&R) in May 2000. After working on A&R and other titles for several years, she founded J&J Editorial with partner Jennifer Deyton in 2008. Julie is the President of the International Society of Managing and Technical Editors (ISMTE) and serves on the mentorship and nominations committees for the Council for Science Editors. She has served on the membership committee for the Society of Scholarly Publishing. Julie regularly speaks about peer review best practices, mentorship, society-publisher relations and professional development in academic publishing. In addition, Julie serves as the Managing Editor for Movement Disorders, the official journal of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society.

Michael Willis is Senior Manager, Peer Review, at Wiley, based in Oxford, UK, responsible for overseeing Wiley's peer review operations within the UK. He has 11 years' experience of managing editorial offices and in-house editorial office resource within Blackwell's and then Wiley's UK Health Sciences portfolio. After a spell of teaching and research in Greek and Latin, he started his publishing career with CatchWord (later Ingenta) in processing and developing online journal content for STM publishers. He has been a member of the ISMTE Board since 2010 and chaired the annual European Conference committee in 2011 and 2012. He is also a member of the European Association of Science Editors (EASE).

Erin Landis

Vice President of Publications, American Gastroenterological Association (AGA)

Erin Landis received her BA in psychology from The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA, and began her career in scholarly publishing at the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) in 2000. In her role as Vice President of Publications, she oversees the editorial and financial operations of three peer-reviewed journals, Gastroenterology, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Cellular and Molecular Gastroenterology and Hepatology; a newspaper, GI & Hepatology News; and a magazine, The New Gastroenterologist. In partnership with the editors and editorial staff, she ensures that the publications maintain and advance their standing in the GI community and align with the AGA strategic plan. She also develops publication policies, oversees the development and implementation of new initiatives, and manages the periodicals’ marketing activities. Additionally, she serves as the staff liaison to the AGA Publications Committee. Erin is a member of the Society for Scholarly Publishing, Council of Science Editors, Committee on Publication Ethics, and the American Society of Association Executives.

Margot Puerta

Executive Editor for Molecular Medicine and Bioelectronic Medicine

Margot Puerta is the Executive Editor for both Molecular Medicine and Bioelectronic Medicine. She is responsible for strategically guiding the development of the journals, including web and multimedia content. During her six-year tenure as Managing Editor for Molecular Medicine, Margot oversaw the peer-review process, redesigned the journal website, and mentored Associate Editors. Prior to assuming these roles, Margot worked as an Associate Editor and Assistant Editor for Molecular Medicine as well as a Senior Project Editor for Macmillian/McGraw Hill Health & Sciences Division.

Meghan McDevitt
Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
Managing Editor, The Journal of Pediatrics

Meghan McDevitt is the Managing Editor of The Journal of Pediatrics based in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is the previous Editor of EON (2014-2016) and has been involved with the ISMTE since 2011. In addition to her role as Treasurer, Meghan oversees the focus area of Peer Organizations, which aims to develop and maintain relationships with similar groups. She serves as the ISMTE representative on the Peer Review Week steering committee and is co-chair of the Peer Review Week International Outreach Committee. Meghan attended the University of Dayton, graduating with degrees in English and French. After teaching high school English in France for one year, Meghan began her career in scholarly publishing as an editorial assistant for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the official journal of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.


Wendy Krank
Phoenix, Arizona, USA
Managing Editor, Headache Currents and Cephalalgia

Wendy Krank worked in a variety of professions and passions including portrait photography and banking before entering the field of medicine. She joined Mayo Clinic Arizona as medical administrative assistant. Mayo Clinic encourages career growth. Wendy took the position of Credentialist for the Department of Medical Staff Services. After five years, she moved to the Mayo Hospital facility in Phoenix to the position General Surgery Residency Coordinator for the Department of Medical Education. The GSR had 20 residents assigned to her for guidance and direction for several years.

Then in 2010, she elected to opt out of corporate work mode with an early retirement to enjoy life as a self-employed managing editor for the neuroscience publications of Cephalalgia and Headache Currents along with animal research journal ILAR.

She has had volunteer duties with the International Society of Managing and Technical Editors (ISMTE) since 2007, as membership recruitment moving to a Board of Director position and Secretary. She volunteers for USA Dance Phoenix chapter providing ballroom dance demonstrations and chapter support. Wendy is past President of the Palm Tree Villas Homeowner’s Association and past President of the Venetian Condo Association. Wendy Krank is a certified yoga instructor.

Alethea Gerding

Managing Editor, Journal of Prosthodontics

Alethea Gerding has been the Managing Editor of the Journal of Prosthodontics, the official publication of the American College of Prosthodontists, since 2003. She is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy (Annapolis, MD) and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy for seven years. While serving as a naval intelligence analyst in Washington, DC, she received her Master’s Degree in Media and Public Affairs from the George Washington University. 

She lives in Chapel Hill, NC with her husband and two sons. She is active in the Chapel Hill community, and in her free time she enjoys running, following baseball, and binge watching television shows.

Thina Hedbom
Solna, Sweden
Managing Editor, Journal of Internal Medicine

Thina Hedbom is the Managing Editor of Journal of Internal Medicine. The Editorial Office is located in Stockholm, by the Karolinska Institutet, Solna.

She started off as a Licensed Physiotherapist, graduated from Karolinska Institutet, and worked for many years at Rehband Anatomiska, with export customer service and as product manager for rehabilitation products.

Thina has been employed by Journal of Internal Medicine, the editorial office, since 2000.

She has attended several ISMTE conferences and also served as a committee member for one European conference.

Thina lives with her husband in Järfälla, north of Stockholm. They have two grown up sons. Classical music and travelling are important to her. 


Chris Heid

Product Lead, Clarivate Analytics

Chris Heid started his career as a Research Analyst for a financial data software company. After transitioning to product management, he entered the scholarly communication industry in 2011 with a product position at ScholarOne. His work focused on growth initiatives for their Manuscripts platform, a submission and peer-review workflow solution for publishers. Currently Chris serves as Product Lead for Clarivate Analytics’ Publishing & Associations business, heading product management for a suite solutions serving scholarly publishers, societies, and their constituents. Chris earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of Georgia.


Beverly Lindeen
Lawrence, Kansas, USA
Senior Managing Editor, Allen Press, Inc.

Beverly Lindeen graduated with Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Kansas. Her first job after graduation was as a Proofreader for Allen Press. Over the next 8 years, she moved through the Customer Service department, first as Production Assistant, and then as Account Manager. She became a Managing Editor in 2006. Over the last 9 years she has worked with nearly 20 different journals, both in the coordination of peer review activities and the management of the journals’ production processes. Throughout her 17-year career at Allen Press she has had the opportunity to serve in a supervisory capacity, but her journal work has remained her first love. She was able to return to being a Managing Editor full time in early 2015, and now works with seven journals ranging in discipline from oral implantology to weed science.

Alison McGonagle-O'Connell

Community Manager, Collaborative Knowledge (Coko) Foundation

Alison has 15 years’ experience in the scholarly publishing industry. Before joining the Coko Foundation, Alison worked for Houghton Mifflin’s College Division, Wiley-Blackwell, EBSCO Information Services, and Aries Systems. At Coko, Alison plays a leading role facilitating community for Editoria, the books workflow management product Coko created in collaboration with University of California Press and California Digital Library. She is also actively involved with xPub, Coko's journals workflow platform in adoption with eLife and Hindawi. Alison participates in several industry organizations including CSE, Peer Review Week, ALPSP, Workplace Equity Project, and the CRediT Program Committee. Carolyn Sperry

Editorial Assistant at Archives of PM&R, Origin Editorial, LLC

Carolyn Sperry is the co-editor of EON, ISMTE’s monthly publication. Carolyn’s first position in publishing was as a manager at a trade book publisher from 2001-2003. In 2003 she began working for Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as an Editorial Assistant. After staying home with her children and working as a freelance journalist and editor from 2006 to 2011, Carolyn was thrilled to come back to work at the Archives in 2011. Carolyn has a B.A. in English from the State University of New York College at Cortland.

Kristen Overstreet

Kristen Overstreet is a managing editor and Senior Partner at Origin Editorial, LLC, providing consultation and peer-review management services. She is a Past President of the ISMTE Board of Directors and currently serves the Society as a member of the Education Committee. Kristen began editorial work in 1998 and currently manages titles in a variety of disciplines. She enjoys researching, writing, and presenting on best practices in peer review and editorial office management.


Glenn Collins

Born and raised in New York, Glenn Collins graduated from Cornell University in 1991 and entered the world of STM publishing a few years later. He started at John Wiley & Sons working his way up to Acquisitions Editor in the Reference Works division before heading west to San Diego. After a brief stint with the journal Brain Research he has been the Executive Managing Editor of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) and associated journals since 2001.


Elizabeth Blalock

Managing Editor, Journal of Investigative Dermatology

Elizabeth Blalock has been Managing Editor of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology since 2002. Previously, she managed the Journal Endocrinology. Elizabeth is a founding member of the International Society for Managing and Technical Editors, and she served as its President from 2010-2011. She has been a member of the Council of Science Editors since 1998 and currently serves as co-chair for its Short Course on Publication Ethics. Elizabeth has spoken on peer review management and reporting as well as managing change and publication ethics for these and other international organizations. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and she earned a Master's degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Jason Roberts, PhD

After earning a doctorate in Geography from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom, Dr. Roberts began work in the subscription services department at Blackwell Science in Oxford, UK. Following a move to Blackwell's US office, he joined that company's editorial team and eventually rose to Publishing Manager and, subsequently, Senior Editor of US-based medical journals; in the latter position he developed and managed budgets and business plans and oversaw society/editor relations with the publisher. In 2004 he left Blackwell to become a Managing Editor. After receiving several requests to help out struggling editorial offices, along with Kristen Overstreet, he now runs Origin Editorial, providing peer review operational support and consultancies on peer review management best practice.

Dr. Roberts frequently serves as an invited speaker on such topics as publication ethics, peer review management and editorial office best practices. He is also an active supporter of using guidelines such as CONSORT for Randomized Controlled Trials to strengthen reporting standards in biomedical journals, believing that a smartly-run editorial office can deliver improvements to the quality of peer review and not just perform a purely operational role.
