Reviewer fatigue is a persistent and growing challenge across scholarly publishing—but what is actually helping in practice? Building on prior research and presentations on reviewer fatigue, this Office Hours session will move beyond defining the problem to exploring how editorial teams are responding in real-world workflows. From increasing difficulty in securing reviewers to growing pressure on existing reviewer pools, the impact is being felt across journals of all sizes.

Rather than a traditional presentation, this session will be delivered as a facilitated, discussion-led conversation, drawing out key insights, experiences, and practical approaches. Together, we will explore: the main drivers behind reviewer fatigue today, where the pressure is most visible in editorial workflows, which strategies are proving effective (and which are not), and how journals are evolving reviewer recruitment, recognition, and support. Participants will be encouraged to share perspectives, challenges, and approaches, creating an open and practical exchange of ideas. Join us for an interactive discussion focused on what is working—and how we can build more sustainable peer review practices.

This is a free event open to all editorial professionals; ISMTE membership is not required, but registration is required to attend.
