This very popular event is back in 2021! Take your career to the next level by learning how to crush the intangibles by attending the ISMTE Career Development Workshop. October 19, 2021 11:00 AM EDT/ 4:00 PM BST
What are the intangibles? Those things that are hard to quantify, but set you apart from the pack and demonstrates your leadership prowess on the team. Workshop speakers will cover:
- Setting Smart Goals: How can goals set you for success for the coming year? To set appropriate goals and chart out the next steps in your career, it’s important to spend some time assessing your strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for growth. We’ll walk through how to conduct a personal SWOT analysis and how to turn the results of that exercise into a framework for creating specific and actionable goals.
- Soft Skills, what are they, and how do they help get you ahead? Editorial office staff call on soft skills daily as they navigate relationships with editors, authors, reviewers, publishers, and learned society staff. Soft skills—such as communication, creativity, adaptability, and integrity–help us function in a work environment and get along with other people. In this segment of the workshop, we’ll look at different soft skills and discuss their importance to our personal growth and careers.
- Mentor/Mentee relationship: How to establish and what’s the value? Mentorships play important roles in their mentees’ lives and careers. These one-on-one relationships between mentors and mentees can be extremely rewarding for both parties. In order to ensure a successful mentor/mentee relationship, it is crucial to have open communication, clear expectations and a safe and supportive environment. In this workshop, you will explore how to establish, develop and maintain a strong, positive mentor/mentee relationship, including navigating challenging conversations.
The workshop will use small group breakouts to further dive into topics presented by speakers with a main group discussion rounding out each topic. Seats are limited - register today! This year we're offering 25% off the registration rate for members and non-members!
