Irene Hames


Irene has a PhD in cell biology but has worked in publishing for over 30 years. Following a decade as a freelance copy editor, book editor, project manager and trainer, she spent 20 years as the managing editor of a large, international, science journal. She now works as an editorial consultant. She is also currently working on a sequel to her first book, Peer Review and Manuscript Management in Scientific Journals.

Jason Roberts


After earning a doctorate in Geography from Loughborough University, Jason worked in a variety of positions at Blackwell Science in Oxford, UK and then in the Blackwell Publishing office in Boston, USA. Jason is currently the Executive Editor for Headache: the journal of head and face pain and a co-founding partner in Origin Editorial, a peer review management consultancy. Jason is the founding president of the International Society of Managing and Technical Editors. He occasionally functions in an advisory capacity on editorial office operations and speaks periodically on the issues of publication ethics in relation to editorial office operations; peer review management and editorial office best practices.
