ISMTE Local Groups have formed through the efforts of members who would like to meet with peers and colleagues in their local area for networking and discussion. Participation is not limited to ISMTE members, and the only cost associated with participation will be your meal, if the group meets at a restaurant.

Topic: “Machine Learning and Ethics”

Presenter: Simon Kohl, a Computer Science PhD student in the Medical Image Computing Group at the German Cancer Research Center, who has recently also launched a group focused on artificial intelligence.

We hope to generate some good discussion about the effect such technological advances can and indeed are having on scholarly publication, which ultimately will affect editorial offices.

David B. Resnik, JD, PhD, Bioethicist and NIEHS IRB Chair, Speaks on Publication Ethics

Dr. David Resnik will join us to talk about multiple ethical issues in scientific publishing, including researcher and author misconduct (eg, fabrication falsification, plagiarism), conflict of interest, as well as bias and problems with peer review.
